Boy
bands have been around since the mid-1950s. Groups like the Ink Spots
and Temptations introduced rhythmically catchy singing and choreographed
movements. They weren't called boy bands back then. They were called
"hep harmony singing groups."
The modern boy band business is the brainchild of Lou Pearlman, a former
transportation tycoon. The idea of promoting boy bands came to him after
chartering a plane to baby-faced boy band New Kids on the Block.
