God must love animals – He made so many of them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some animals are so small that you need a microscope to see them. Others are huge. All are interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are more than a million animal species. There are 6,000 species of reptiles, 73,000 kinds of spiders, 3,000 types of lice and 360,000 beetle species. For each person there is about 200 million insects. The 4,600 kinds of mammals represent a mere 0,3% of animals and the 10,000 kinds of birds only 0,7%. The most abundant bird species is the red-billed quelea of sub-Saharan Africa, numbering almost 2 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even so, about one third of animals have been driven to extinction as a result of mismanagement and pollution by the fast-growing human population. Please take good care of the animals around you. Make your garden bird and bee-friendly. Wherever possible, please contribute time or money to animal associations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\"Blue-ringed<\/a> Look, but don’t touch! The blue-ringed octopus<\/a> is only the size of a golf ball but it’s poison is powerful enough to kill an adult human in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n

\"nessie-little\"<\/a> How tall is Nessie? Much bigger than a Nile crocodile. Have you spotted Nessie<\/a> lately? Others have!<\/p>\n

\"cow-small\"<\/a> Although a cow has no upper front teeth, it grazes up to 8 hours a day. Cows<\/a> also are one of the main contributors to the hole in the ozone layer.<\/p>\n

\"dog\"<\/a> We have a curious relationship with dogs. As pets they are pampered but stray dogs are feared. How did the dog find a place in our family home?<\/a><\/p>\n

\"parrots\"<\/a> They are beautiful, noisy and poop a lot. For a very long time too because parrots<\/a> live for 40 years and even up to 100 years. And they do something that no other bird does.<\/p>\n
