The Vatican is the world’s smallest country, at 0,16 square miles (0,44 square km).<\/p>\n

Russia is the largest country in the world, at 6,591,027 square miles (17,075,200 square km).<\/p>\n

New Zealand is also the only country that contains every type of climate in the world.<\/p>\n

There are 195 countries in the world, of which 193 are members of the United Nations and 2 are non-member observer states (Vatican City and Palestine). <\/p>\n

The UN and USA does not officially recognize Taiwan as an independent country.<\/p>\n

Taiwan is one of 6 non-UN states with partial recognition (meaning at least one other country recognizes its sovereignty); the others are Abkhazia, Kosovo, Northern Cyprus, South Ossetia and Western Sahara.<\/p>\n

There are 5 break-away states that have limited recognition as de facto countries: Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria, Donetsk People’s Republic, Lugansk People’s Republic and Somaliland.<\/p>\n

There are 61 colonies or territories in the world.<\/p>\n

The International Olympics Organization recognizes 206 Olympic nations.<\/p>\n

FIFA recognizes 211 countries as eligible for World Cup participation.<\/p>\n

The ISO Standards List has 249 country codes, 45 of which are noted as Inhabited Dependent Territories and 6 as Uninhabited Territories. The list also counts Antarctica.<\/p>\n

Only 11 people have been recorded as being born in Antarctica… although, according to records, 51 UK citizens claim to have been born there. (Argentinian Emilio Marcos Palma, b. 1\/7\/1978, is the first documented person born on Antarctica.)<\/p>\n

More than 60 million people annually visit France, a country of 60 million people.<\/p>\n

Seoul, the South Korean capital, just means “the capital” in the Korean language.<\/p>\n
