Australian states
Australia is the world’s smallest continent, covering 7,741,220 km². Australia the 6th largest country in the world. It is the largest country in the Southern Hemisphere but is fairly sparsly populated with only 21 million people living in the 6 states, 2 major territories and some smaller territories and islands. The name Australia comes from the Latin Australis, meaning “Southern.” The capital is Canberra.
