Canada is the world’s second largest largest country in total area, covering most of Northern America.(Russia is the largest country in the world, covering 17,098,242 km².) Some 33 million people occupy the country’s 9,984,670 km². The capital is Ottowa, a municipality within the Province of Ontario. The name Canada likely comes from the Iroquoian word kanata, meaning “village.”
